Washing Routine

Note: Before first use be sure to wash the diaper’s outer layer one time. To reach full absorbency, the inner layer should be washed 3-4 times. It is unnecessary to dry the inserts between each wash.

Step 1: Changing the diaper

Once the wetness indicator changes color, it’s time to change your baby’s diaper! First, remove the soiled diaper and flush any solids into the toilet.  Note: While your baby is on a milk only diet, it is unnecessary to clean off the diaper before washing. Just add directly to the laundry!

Remove the inner lining from the diaper pocket. Diapers and inserts may  be placed in a waterproof bag until it is time for washing.

Avoid storing diapers/inserts in airtight containers as this will cause mold.

Note: To prevent damage to the wetness indicator and waterproof layer, avoid soaking the diapers in hot water for long periods of time. The diapers can still be fully cleaned even without presoaking!

Step 2: Washing the diapers

Before washing, be sure to attach the Velcro tabs inward on both sides of the waistband to prevent clothes from tangling.

Using your washing machine, prewash the diapers and inserts for 30 minutes, then add detergent and switch to the main wash cycle. The machine should have just enough water to cover the clothes. Tip: you can add baby’s clothes to the wash in this step to increase the friction if needed!

  • Avoid using bleach or softeners to prevent damaging diaper absorbency.
  • Avoid using baking soda to clean/deodorize diapers to prevent damage to the inner bamboo layer.

Step 3: Drying the diapers

Save electricity by line drying the diaper’s outer layer! Fold them in half while hanging to avoid stretching out the elastic band. Diaper inserts can be tumble-dried on low heat.

Note: It is not recommended to machine dry the outer diaper because high temperatures may damage the wetness indicator and waterproof layer.
